San Diego Face Lift

What are the advantages of having a Face Lift?

A more rested and youthful contour to the face and neck.

Who is a good candidate for a Face Lift?
  • If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck.
  • If you have the appearance of jowls and deep creases between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth.
  • If you have developed facial and neck wrinkles.
  • If you believe you lack youthful chin and neck contours.
  • If you think you have a tired facial appearance.
What does a Face Lift procedure involve?

Facelifts range in size from "mini" to "standard"/"full" depending on location and extent of skin laxity. There are several techniques used to perform a facelift, each done in its own way and each with its own benefits:

  • In the traditional full facelift, an incision is made at the hairline, excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is pulled and tightened, excess skin is trimmed and removed and stitches are used to close the incision. The traditional facelift is used when there are large amounts of sagging and drooping skin to be removed.
  • With the mini-lift, a small incision is made in front of each ear and a small area of skin is lifted. This technique is particularly suited for patients in their late thirties or early forties since it targets the early signs of aging.
  • We also offer a "Cheek Lift"/"Midface Lift" using the Endotine fixation device - a new approach to easily restore sagging cheek volume to its natural position without the need for sutures.

How long does a Face Lift take?

Depending upon if it is a "mini", "mid-face" or "standard" facelift, it can take between 2-5 hours.

How long does it take to recover from a Face Lift?

You will go home with head and neck wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed the next day. If there are sutures, they are removed within 14 days. Bruising and swelling decrease to "socially acceptable" levels in 10-20 days.

When can I expect to see results from my Face Lift?

The final result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.

When can I go back to work/resume my normal activities after having a Face Lift?
  • Plan on resting for the first day or two. After that, you should be able to move about, but you will want to take it easy until you reach about the one-week mark.
  • For the first two or three weeks after your surgery, you will need to avoid strenuous activities. Walking and simple stretches are probably fine, but avoid anything that requires exertion or lifting. (This includes housework.)
  • The average time off work seems to be about 2 weeks after having a Face Lift.
How long will the results of a Face Lift last?

The results generally last between five to ten years, longer in many cases. It depends a great deal on you and your type of skin. It is important to keep in mind that the effects of aging, gravity, and environmental factors will continue to affect the smoothness, sagging, and wrinkling of your face and neck. A good skin care routine including skin rejuvenation treatments will maximize the effectiveness and longevity of your surgical results.

What are my alternatives to having a Face Lift?

Non-Surgical Body Contouring can help tighten facial skin. Laser Peels and Chemical Peels can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Additional procedures that would enhance the result are: Neck Lift, Non-Surgical Body Contouring (to tighten the facial skin) Eyelid Lift, Brow Lift, Laser and/or Chemical Peels Chin Enlargement, Nose Reshaping (rhinoplasty), Fat Suction, and Laser Skin Resurfacing, Cheekbone Enhancement, Augmentation/Enhancement of Lips, Reduction of Earlobes.
