Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin resurfacing technique which removes the outer dead cell layer leaving the skin smoother, softer and rejuvenated. This technique stimulates collagen production, promotes new cell growth and creates optimum nourishment to the tissue by enhancing penetration of products. It reduces acne, softens acne scarring and combats the signs of aging, including fine lines and age spots. The treatment is effective on all skin types and may be used on the face, hands, neck or chest.
At the Del Mar Cosmetic Medical Center, we use the Silk Peel Microdermabrasion system.
What is a Silk Peel?
A Silk Peel Microdermabrasion treatment, unlike other Microdermabrasion treatments, does not require loose crystals to "buff" the skin. With a Silk Peel treatment, a diamond tip is used therefore eliminating aluminum oxide residue on the skin.
What are the advantages of having a Silk Peel?
A Silk Peel Microdermabrasion treatment:
- Softens and smoothes the skin giving it a "refreshing" glow
- Stimulates collagen production and new cell growth
- Reduces acne and softens acne scars
- Treats fine lines and age spots
- Can be customized by impregnating the skin with cosmeceuticals to moisturize your skin or to treat acne.
Who is a good candidate for a Silk Peel?
If you have:
- Dull, weathered skin
- Acne and acne scars
- Uneven skin tone/blotchy pigmentation
- Fine wrinkles
What does a Silk Peel treatment involve?
During the treatment, a small handheld device with an exfoliating tip is passed over the skin several times. Loosened "dead" skin is removed along with dirt and debris from the skin's surface and is suctioned back up into the machine. There is no pain involved and many people actually describe it as a mild tingling sensation.
How long does a Silk Peel treatment take?
A treatment takes no more than 30 minutes.
How many Silk Peel treatments are required?
A series of 5 treatments are recommended initially at two week intervals and then repeated monthly for optimal results.
How long does it take to recover from a Silk Peel?
There is no downtime.
When can I expect to see results from my Silk Peel?
You will notice a difference in your skin texture and tone immediately. Multiple treatments may be needed to achieve the final desired result. Once the desired result is achieved, periodic treatments are advised to maintain results.
When can I go back to work/resume my normal activities after having a Silk Peel?
Immediately - there is no downtime.
How long will the results from having a Silk Peel last?
The results vary depending upon how well you take care of your skin. Repeated treatments will stimulate the production of a new layer of skin cells, bringing with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skins appearance.
Continued protection from the sun and implementing a good skin-care regime can help in maintaining the results.
What are my alternatives to having a Silk Peel?
Alternatives as well as additional procedures that would enhance the result are:
- Laser Peel
- Non-Ablative Laser Treatments
- Portrait Peel
- Chemical Peel
- IPL - Photo Rejuvenation
