During an initial consultation, Dr. Sherman will examine the patient and discuss the available options. Those who have lost volume due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, and/or weight loss may be ideal candidates for breast lift surgery (“mastopexy”). This procedure lifts the breasts to a more youthful position on the chest wall and removes excess skin. Incisions for this type of surgery are made around the areola (nipple), vertically down and under the breast crease. This allows Dr. Sherman to skillfully reshape the breast with accuracy and provide a more symmetrical appearance. In some patients, further enhancement can be achieved with the combination of breast augmentation (“augmentation mammaplasty”). A breast lift with implants can add volume to the upper breast and improve the shape to that of a beautiful aesthetic teardrop.
However, if there is an abundance of breast tissue and fat present, Dr. Sherman may perform a breast reduction (“reduction mammaplasty”).
